Did You Hear The One About The Three Jews?

If you’re looking for a bad joke I’m sorry to disappoint. This post is about three Jews but there is no punch line. One is dead. One is almost dead, and one was dead but is alive again. So let’s begin.

Yitzak Kaduri
Yitzak Kaduri

There was a beloved and revered Rabbi name Yitzak Kaduri who died in 2006. So what you say. Well I’ll tell you so what. Rabbi Kaduri was well known for his knowledge and memorization of the scriptures and the Talmud. He was a righteous man and the chief Rabbis’ looked up to him and sought him out for counsel. A few months before he died at the age of 108, he told his followers that the Messiah had appeared to him. He wrote the name of the Messiah in a note and sealed it with the instructions that it not be opened until one year after his death.

His son David, 80 years old, said that in his father’s last year he spent much time dreaming of, and speaking to, the Messiah. Then in a sermon to his synagogue on Yom Kippur he taught his congregation how to recognize the Messiah. He also mentioned that Messiah would appear shortly after Ariel Sharon died.

Ariel Sharon
Ariel Sharon

Ariel Sharon. A great man. A military genius. A hero of the nation of Israel. Guilty of atrocities in Lebanon as Defense Minister and later, as Prime Minister, initiated the unilateral withdrawal of Israeli’s from the West Bank. He suffered a stroke on Jan. 4, 2006 which left him in a permanent vegetative state. He is 85.

* Newsflash* – Jerusalem – Jan. 2, 2014

Doctors in Israel say that former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s “already critical medical condition is deteriorating further as key bodily organs continue to decline,” The Associated Press writes.

Dr. Zeev Rotstein, director of Tel Hashomer hospital near Tel Aviv, told reporters that members of the 85-year-old Sharon’s family are by his bedside, the AP adds.

The news follows word earlier this week that Sharon, who has been in a coma since suffering a stroke in 2006, was suffering additional problems.

Friday’s headline from Israel’s Haaretz newspaper makes clear what the media there are expecting:

Ariel Sharon’s days are numbered, hospital director says.”

Haaretz writes that “responding to a forthright question of one reporter asking whether Sharon would die, Rotstein said that in his opinion Sharon’s days were numbered, but that the doctors treating him ‘remain hopeful.’ “

There are other sources that go so far as to suggest that doctors would be surprised if Sharon made it through the week-end.

Lu 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Ge 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons (appointed times), and for days, and years.

You will, perhaps, understand why eschatologists around the world are getting a little excited when I relay the following tidbit of information. According to NASA 2014 will experience not only 4 blood moons and a solar eclipse, but the blood moons fall on 4 appointed times, or feast days, in the Jewish calendar. These feast days are not man made days but God appointed days from the time of Moses. Now 4 blood moons in one year is rare, but for them to occur on 4 high holy days is even more extraordinary.

Christ Triumphant

So, enter the third Jew. Jesus the Nazarene, who’s followers not only believe died on a cross, but was raised from the dead and ascended to heaven to await the time of His return. While believers have always longed for that day, the excitement has reached almost fever pitch in the last decade or so with people so fevered with anticipation that they convince themselves that God has revealed the time of the event to them and then suffer shame and ridicule when the day passes and no return. The rest of the believers who wisely shun such date setting are nevertheless included in the embarrassment.

So, am I date setting? No I most certainly am not. I have no inside information on the timing of the glorious event. But . . . we are most definitely told to watch and be alert. To what? Signs. God, contrary to popular opinion, speaks to mankind. He tries to warn them of their deeds in order to turn and avoid judgment. Now how could God do that? How could God communicate with – well – everybody? Ahhhh . . . the penny drops. How can you miss the sun, moon and stars? For me, 4 blood moons on Jewish feast days and a solar eclipse in one year is as close to a cosmic billboard as you can get.

Will anything happen this year? Beats me. But with all that’s going on in the world, I’ll be watching.

Oh, I almost forgot. What was the name of the Messiah that Rabbi Kaduri wrote in the note to be opened 1 year after his death? Yahoshua  or Yeshua in the Hebrew which translates to Jesus.

Now think for a moment the import of that. A venerated Jewish Rabbi stated that Jesus was the Messiah and would return shortly after the death of Ariel Sharon. For a Jew to come to believe that Yehoshua is the Moshiach is pretty amazing and while it doesn’t guarantee that his prophecy regarding Sharon will come to pass, it sure adds a little weight to it don’t you think?
