Spears songs in Christ musical
Theatre producers in New York are set to launch a new musical about Jesus set to the tunes of Britney Spears.
Tracks including Stronger, (You Drive Me) Crazy and . . . Baby One More Time are being used to score Spears The Musical: The Gospel According to Britney, which will detail the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Christian figurehead.
Show creator Pat Blute says, “These are Britney’s lyrics. These are Jesus Christ’s images. The Britney Spears you see is not Britney Spears. Remember that. The Jesus Christ you read is not Jesus Christ. These are manifestations. Accounts through the media, through the words of followers, of friends, of foes, of villains, of heroes, of liars, of biases.”
The musical is set to be previewed in the Big Apple on Nov. 7.
This article actually appeared in the Toronto Sun Nov. 4/13. I had to read it a few times before it finally sunk in. Seriously? As if modern society hasn’t trashed the person of Jesus Christ enough already (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Last Temptation of Christ, Southpark), they just keep taking pot shots like it’s no big deal. Try putting on a show about Mohammed to Britney Spears songs and see what happens. But apparently the “figurehead” of Christianity is fair game.
The only good thing I can see coming out of this is to highlight the difference between so called “peaceful” Islam and Christianity. While Christians will be rightfully offended that the songs of this slutty little pop tart will be used in a show about our Lord in any way, shape or form, do the same about Mohammed and there would be Fatwa’s on the lives of those involved and the theatre’s would be burned to the ground.
There is a hatred towards Christianity in our society and a move to eliminate it from the public sphere. Jesus Christ is hands down the most important historical figure of all time and he’s relegated to “figurehead”. Christians are mocked openly in ways that if done to other religions would result in charges of hate crimes. Christian thought is being purged from the marketplace of politics, science, art and social policy.
Nowhere does this bias appear more strongly than in the media where Christians are more often portrayed as bigoted buffoons like Archie Bunker, a caricature created by Norman Lear who despised Christianity, rather than people like Isaac Newton, Luther, Augustine, Pasteur, Bonhoeffer, Billy Graham or Corrie Ten Boom. It’s bad enough we have to put up with these idiot televangelists who are nothing more than snake oil salesmen that call themselves Christians and take advantage of poor fools who have fallen for the “God wants me to have the best” theology of the corrupt western Church.
We need to stand up. The Christians of North America need their leaders to preach against this blasphemy from the pulpit. We need to speak out and show that we will not sit by and be silent while the Son of God is mocked, nor will we use violence to get our point across unlike other more “peaceful” religions.
To have Britney Spears’ music associated in any way with the life of Jesus Christ is an insult to Him and to all that love Him and respect Him.
America is wallowing in filth and perversion and they don’t even realize it.
Re 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
